The rich history of Smolyan has long established the town as a natural administrative, economic and cultural centre of the Rhodope Mountains.

Smolyan is situated 92 km south of Plovdiv and 92 km away of the Aegean Sea.

The town is surrounded by a magnificent panorama, fantastically decorated with fir forests, valleys, caves and lakes, which is very impressive to the tourists and visitors of the town. The nearby sea, the varied vegetation, the forest areas and the lack of air polluters are very good for the human health.
