Trigrad's nature is preserved untouched by any technology and industry activities. The village of Trigrad was closed for tourists for long years because of its location near the state border with Greece. Legends tell that it was through this cave that Orpheus entered the underground kingdom of Hades, to save his beloved Euridice. The cave Djavolskoto Garlo ("Devil's throat") is located only 1 kilometre on the north from Trigrad. The water of Trigradskata Reka river form several waterfalls in it, with the biggest one falling 60 metres in the large Buchashta Zala ("Roaring hall") of the cave. There is electricity in the cave and the staircases leading up near the roaring water of the underground waterfall are protected with concrete handrails. A 150-metre-tunnel has been dug in the rock so that the underground world of the Djavolskoto Garlo cave may become accessible to the people.
There are many natural sights near to Trigrad that you just must see at any rate. The reserve Starata Gora ("The Old Forest") - a 25-hectare protected territory with 200-year old beech tree forest and the Chairite area, located 19 km southeast from the village famous for its six sloping landslip lakes, fenced round by spruce and alder forests. The cave Haramiyskata Peshtera, the Shabanitsa reserve, the Kraevo, Ployanite, and Vodni Pad areas, Trigrad's gorge as well as Pometkovo. The region is one of the largest limestone areas in the country and has more than 150 caves. Only 8 kilometres away from Trigrad there are two more incredible wonders of nature - Byunovskoto Zhdrelo gorge and Yagodinskata Peshtera cave. The latter is the longest in the Rhodopes with its 8 kilometres and the most beautiful, too, with its many stalagmites, dendrites and glacier formations.
